Club Manager
Irene lives in Tunbridge Wells with her husband Gary and son Charlie. Her career spans both the public and private sector managing large retail stores to consultancy within hospitality. She has worked in support roles in key schools and Irene is also a Governor of 2 local secondary schools.
Irene’s husband taught her and Charlie how to play tennis but he mainly enjoyed spinning the return balls!!
Since playing at the club she was advised by her team mates in rusty rackets to always play in doubles and never play with her husband!!
Bar & Catering Manager
Kari is a true Scandinavian, both Norwegian and Swedish, and spent time in Copenhagen in her younger days. For more than 20 years she worked in tourism as a tour guide/air hostess (Air guide) and feels at home everywhere in the Mediterranean – speaking a few languages also helps.
Having worked in Spain, Cyprus, Morocco and Greece, Kari ended up living in Corfu for a long time, running a small hotel with her husband.
After a short stint as a Manager in a friends pub in Old Oxted she ended up in Wadhurst, as a House Manager and PA, working for a high net worth Swedish entrepreneur. Almost 10 years in the bucolic hills of East Sussex and Kari finally gave in to tennis – a lifelong love affair that started with Bjorn Borg all those years ago. Full circle or, as Rafa would say, Vamos!
Groundsman
The grounds at TWLTC are maintained by our full-time groundsman, Kevin, who works hard all year to ensure that the grass, clay and hard courts are in optimum condition for tennis.
Our grass courts are ordinarily open between early May and mid-September and Kevin follows an annual tried and tested maintenance programme including autumn scarification, verti-draining, re-seeding and top-dressing. The preparation goes on all winter, with Kevin working flat out by April, putting the final touches to the courts. Our grass courts are assessed by the LTA each year who send us a report which we take into account when planning the maintenance for the following year.
Kevin also maintains the clay and hard courts and we bring in a specialist clay court maintenance company each autumn for their annual maintenance programme.
